Dyer Island Cruises – Boat Based Whale Watching & Marine Big 5 Eco Trips
Dyer Island Cruises operates around the world famous Dyer Island. You might be so fortunate to see the Ocean’s Marine Big 5 – the Southern Right Whale, the iconic Great White Shark, the Cape fur seal (around 60 000 on Geyser Rock), the endangered African Penguin and various visiting dolphin species. The area is also home to a wide variety of seabirds.
You will arrive at The Great White House where we have a restaurant, bathroom facilities and curio shop. In our conservation and education room, you will receive an in-depth briefing by our resident marine biologist regarding the area that we operate in, our conservation work and safety. Every guest is equipped with inflatable life jackets and wet weather gear in case of cooler weather conditions. It is a short walk down to the harbor to enjoy an exhilarating trip on custom designed Dream Catcher. During Southern right whale season (June to December), we prioritise the whales.
Other stops include a visit to the shark cage diving vessels to view great white sharks and then head to Dyer Island for the penguins and seals. Other visiting whale species are the Bryde’s whale and the Humpback whale. We may also spot one of three dolphin species. All trips are weather permitted and times will only be confirmed a day prior to the trip. The trip includes a visit to our newly build African Penguin and Seabird Sanctuary (APSS) either before or after the trip.
Dyer Island Cruises supports and funds the Dyer Island Conservation Trust under which we have many conservation and community projects. Please be assured that if you book with us that ‘Your choice make a difference’ and you help us to fulfil our dream to ‘Discover and Protect’.
